Joshua wanted a place to test the technical skills he'd honed over the first decade of his life, while expressing his passion for all things Six Flags Great Adventure. So, he created a fansite called Great Adventure Online. His little website ended up ranking number one on Google, at one point even surpassing Six Flags’ own website.
He spent the summer before his junior year of high school going door-to-door to local businesses pitching his website design services. After many rejections, Joshua found his first client and built them a new, revenue-generating website. After that, things really started snowballing for ChopDawg.com.
Word spread fast about the teenager from New Jersey who started his own website design company, and overnight Joshua of ChopDawg.com became a media sensation. He was featured by major publications such as MSNBC, CBS, Inc., NBC, and Startup Grind. His email server even crashed as businesses from all over the nation reached out, clamoring for a new website by ChopDawg.com.
With hundreds of websites under their belt already, Chop Dawg built their first web-based application. Joshua decided then and there ChopDawg.com would pivot from building websites to digital applications. But they were suddenly in uncharted territory, and Joshua's own shortcomings as a leader quickly came to light as they struggled to find a second client who wanted a web application built.
Joshua decided Chop Dawg would build an application of their own. The team went full steam ahead on Subtle, a CRM-based business management tool before such a thing existed. Eight months and $50K later, ChopDawg.com was back at square one, with no app and no clients. It was through Joshua's failure with Subtle that he learned he needed to become a self-aware leader and entrepreneur.
Joshua become a passionate student of entrepreneurship. It was then he started developing the personal framework that would eventually inspire his debut book. He rebuilt Chop Dawg and their purpose became helping individuals with great ideas that don’t have the technological resources to make them reality.
With a thriving business and firm methodologies in place for himself and his company, Joshua was sharing his story of 'Accidental Entrepreneurship' as a keynote speaker at universities, conferences, and meetups around the globe. Most importantly, he learned how to maintain balance while growing his business and thriving client relationships as a Technical Partner at ChopDawg.com.
2018 has been the year of scaling. Joshua published his debut book sharing his strategy for sustainable entrepreneurship and was named Philadelphia's Entrepreneur of the Year by Philly Magazine. He and his company Chop Dawg were featured in Forbes, and named one of the Top App Developers in the World by Clutch.co, the premiere directory for app developers.
This year, Joshua's business turns 10 as he turns 26. He's officially been an entrepreneur and business owner for over a decade. Who knows what amazing opportunities await ChopDawg.com in the coming months - as for Joshua, why, he'll be at your next speaking engagement!
It's no secret — starting a company is hard. So many decisions are interdependent on factors outside of our control. Some founders follow a business plan; others operate by the seat of their pants. But all entrepreneurs need a personal framework to follow. Since starting his first company at age sixteen, ChopDawg.com Founder and CEO Joshua H. Davidson has developed trusting relationships with clients while building a thriving team to serve them. But Joshua didn't always think like a long-term leader. In 2013, the growing pains of running a startup had brought his team to the brink of a breakup. Faced with the threat of going out of business, Joshua had to reverse-engineer his company (and himself) to get it back on track. The result was a framework that any entrepreneur can use to build a sustainable business. With hard-won insight, humor, and an insider's knowledge of the entrepreneurial space, Joshua dispels the myths and false promises that entrepreneurs are often too keen to believe in when starting out, laying out a practical framework for lasting success.
