Social Networking
More and more, conversations on social media are becoming derailed by trolls and spam. The Dissolve founders have figured out a way to mitigate this problem and bring more meaning/direction back into conversations between friends. The goal was to create a platform that allows friends to have thought-out discussions. One key to achieving this mission was to develop an algorithm that determines which conversations are “hot” vs. which are “cold” with the cardinal rule that no conversation can last beyond twenty-four hours. By being able to self-destruct a post through a custom timer, it forces all participants to keep the discussion focused.
After a few months of careful planning, Dissolve hired Chop Dawg to bring this idea to life. During the design phase, Chop Dawg and Dissolve spent extensive time carefully planning out all wireframes, high fidelities, and product flows. As a social network, Dissolve did need to support expected features such as group and individual messaging, activity feeds, robust search functionality, and personalized profiles. Additionally, to encourage user activity, we added push notifications. However, from there we worked on adding Dissolve’s unique features such as expiring messages, timed posts and comments, and the ability to show interest in subjects by adding to the flame, making a post hotter and attracting interest from your peers and other users.
Dissolve also required a unique algorithm for its news feed, which would display not only content from users someone is directly following, but also for conversations shared on the network that fit similar interests and topics a user may have already covered in the past. Chop Dawg also worked with Dissolve to come up with their branding assets from their app icon to their frontend marketing website. Finally, we set up the server and administrator backend so Dissolve could manage all users and content that were being contributed to the platform.
Dissolve was built as an iPhone application using Swift and with REST APIs. Dissolve was made to support iOS 10 and 11. For the administrator and server-side, we used PHP with Laravel. The frontend website was created using WordPress, HTML5, and CSS3.
We're a full stack design & development agency that is as hands-on as a CTO+Team out of the box. It is much harder to find a team with great chemistry that has the shared talent to back it up, and we take pride in our effort to achieve both.
