1985 saw another huge turnover of DAWG personnel; gone were Kevin Butler, Knox Culpepper, Kevin Harris and Jeff Sanchez, but new arrivals included freshman Keith Henderson and Tim Worley, who joined sophomore Lars Tate in one of the most talented backfields ever to break loose Between the Hedges.
Following a tough Labor Day Night nationally-televised loss to Alabama, the DAWGS went on an eight-game unbeaten streak, highlighted by a close win over Clemson in Death Valley (we had some great games against Clemson in the '80's! I miss that rivalry) and blowouts over Ole Miss in Jackson and Kentucky and Tulane in Athens. The highlight of the season came in--where else?--Jacksonville, where the DAWGS scored one of the most improbable wins ever in this series, a 24-3 domination of #1-ranked Florida.
The final highlight of the Florida audio is a long run--one of several long runs from scrimmage in that game--by Lars Tate. Sorry about not being able to present the second half of this game; some of my highlight tapes have disappeared over the years!
